Wednesday season 2: Release date speculation, cast, news for Netflix series
Tim Burton's gothic fantasy drama will return.
More and more details have been emerging about Wednesday season 2 as filming continues - most prominently, a major addition to the cast.
Lady Gaga will be making a cameo appearance in season 2 in an unknown role, it's been revealed. Of course, it's not the first time Gaga has been connected to the Netflix fantasy show, as a remix of her song Blood Mary went viral on TikTok with fans using it to soundtrack Jenna Ortega's iconic dance from season 1.
Ortega, who plays Wednesday Addams in the hit series, previously also said she would love Gaga to be part of season 2 - to perhaps she had a hand in the casting.
"I'm sure Netflix would love that," Ortega told Variety. "I think Mrs. Thornhill [played by Christina Ricci] and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way, so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other."
Wednesday season 2 has been filming in Ireland but production is reportedly set to wrap soon, with the series being released next year.

Wednesday season 2 release date speculation
Wednesday season 2 will be released in 2025. While we don't have a specific release date just yet, we'd expect it to come in the first half of the year. We'll keep this page updated with any new information as and when it comes.
What we do know is that the series is currently filming in Ireland and is reportedly due to wrap soon. The post-production process will, of course, then begin.
Production began in May 2024, with an announcement from Netflix confirming the news.
A tweet from the streamer read: "Here we woe again," while the announcement video promised more "torture" from the gothic series. We wouldn't have it any other way!
Plus, while nothing is confirmed, we could be in for even more seasons beyond season 2.
Speaking to Variety, showrunner Miles Millar revealed that he and co-creator Alfred Gough hoped for the show to continue beyond just season 2.
He explained: "For us, it's always looking at the future, and when we sit down to create a show, it's looking at multiple seasons, ideally. That's never expected, but that's the anticipation – that hopefully the show is successful.
"So, you always lay out at least three or four seasons' worth of potential storylines for the characters. It can evolve and change.
"Often, you want to see which characters or cast pop and who you like to write for, so you want to keep it open and organic enough to change it and evolve. But we certainly have a pretty clear runway of what we want to do in future seasons."

Of course, it wouldn't be Wednesday without our star, Jenna Ortega, as Wednesday Addams.
The star revealed to Harper's Bazaar that she's once again grappling with playing the cello, saying in an interview: "We’re shooting the second season right now, so I think it was maybe two weeks ago I pulled a good portion of my hair out for a cello piece.
"We shot that one-and-done, and then we’re moving on to the next one, so I am currently playing, never said I was good."
Alongside Ortega, it's clear we'll see plenty of our returning characters develop throughout season 2, including Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair and Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay.
We're also set to see some acting royalty join the cast, including Billie Piper as new character Capri, Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort, and Joanna Lumley as Grandmama. Thandiwe Newton and Addams Family actor Christopher Lloyd are also among the new additions.
Lady Gaga will also be making a cameo appearance in a yet to be disclosed role.
There are some uncertainties at the moment. Hunter Doohan, who played Tyler, isn't included in Netflix's confirmed list of cast members – and neither is Naomi J Ogawa, who played Yoko Tanaka.
It's also not currently confirmed whether Gwendoline Christie will return as Principal Larissa Weems.
One actor we're not expecting to see back is Percy Hynes, who played Xavier Thorpe, after he confirmed his exit from the show. He said at the time: "I had so much fun working on this show. "I can't wait to watch season 2 :) Much love."
Ortega has since addressed his exit, describing it as a "weird re-direct" and adding: "But we’re introducing so many different characters that I think it kind of will get lost.”
What could be the plot for Wednesday season 2?
We don't have an official synopsis for Wednesday season 2 just yet but Netflix confirms that the show will continue Wednesday's adventures at Nevermore Academy.
Catherine Zeta Jones, who is returning to the role of Morticia Addams, then says: "This season is going to be bigger and more twisted than you can ever imagine."
“If we showed you any more, your eyes would bleed, and I’m not that generous,” Ortega then says, as the clip comes to an end.
Ortega previously mentioned that the show will lean more into horror, which fans will be thrilled to hear. She said at the Emmys: "I've received some scripts now for the second season, and we're definitely leaning into a little bit more horror."
While we might be leaning more into horror, we're moving away from romance with Ortega revealing that Wednesday won't have a love interest in season 2.
She said in Variety's Actors on Actors: "We're ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great."
Oh - and there'll be more than one new cello scene, as detailed above. We can't wait!
One thing that showrunner Miles Millar is keen to add more of in the second season is the Addams Family themselves, with Netflix's first look clip confirming that Pugsley, Wednesday's younger brother, will attend Nevermore this season.
Millar previously told TV Line, he said: "We felt like we just touched the surface with those characters and the actors are so amazing in those roles.
"Catherine is, I think, an iconic Morticia. The relationship between Wednesday and Morticia is also essential to the show, and the idea that Wednesday is trying to forge her own path outside the family is important."
He added: "[We] definitely want to feature the family as we did this season in a couple of episodes if we were to get a second season."
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Millar also spoke about how they would hope to continue the "inspiring" nature of Wednesday as a young teenage protagonist.
He said: "We’re also the father of four daughters between us. So, we have definitely culled from life for this one, and I think we’re definitely inspired to write or find a teen girl character like this, who’s so rare, who’s so self-confident, literate, smart, weird and unapologetic about all those things.
"Often, teen girls can start off as an ugly duckling, and they blossom into a swan, whereas here Wednesday is fully formed. I think it’s such an amazing aspirational role model to see this character. It’s so rare to see a female teen protagonist like this."
Additionally, Gough and Millar teased the possibility of further exploring the theme of female friendships in a future second season.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Gough said: "We wanna sort of explore and sort of complicate all of those relationships going forward. The school was closed when they left, which gave us the most possibilities for season two, and I think that’s something that we’re excited to explore.

"We’re excited to explore now that Wednesday’s dipped her toe into the friendship pool, what’s that gonna look like?"
One thing's for sure - Ortega will back the character in a big way as she always has done.
The actress has also been a vocal champion of Wednesday from the start, going as far as changing dialogue from some scenes to better suit the character without informing the writers beforehand, to coming up with her groovy dance moves (which were inspired by Lisa Loring’s iteration of Wednesday back in 1994) by herself.
Ortega added to Tudum: “[Wednesday] sticks to her guns, and she’s not out to please anybody. Which, as someone who used to be an immense people pleaser, I really respect.”
How many episodes will be in Wednesday season 2?
We're expecting to see eight episodes in Wednesday season 2 - the same as season 1.
The first episode is titled Here We Woe Again. Tim Burton, Paco Cabezas and Angela Robinson will direct episodes during this season.
Is Wednesday leaving Netflix?
No. After some mild panic from fans, Netflix confirmed early in 2023 that Wednesday will return for season 2 on the streaming service, describing the show as a "global phenomenon" in an announcement video.
Showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough told Netflix's Tudum: "We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore.
"We just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first."
They added: "We’re thrilled to continue Wednesday’s torturous journey into season 2."
Ortega has also thanked fans for their support ahead of season 2, tweeting: "Thanks to everyone who made this upcoming season possible. This has all been pretty surreal."
Previously, there had been speculation that the wild success of the show could lead to it being poached by Prime Video, following Amazon's recent acquisition of Addams Family owner MGM for a cool $8.4 billion.
However, Deadline reported that Amazon’s MGM deal doesn’t automatically mean content from the producer will become exclusive to Prime Video.
IndieWire also sought to debunk the rumours, with a source telling the publication that a deal between Netflix and MGM had already been locked in long before Amazon purchased MGM.
Is there a Wednesday season 2 trailer?
There's no full trailer just yet, but we do have a behind-the-scenes first-look clip, which you can view at the top of this page.
